Kieran’s passion for the outdoors began with a childhood immersed in hunting, fishing, and spending time at the beach. This fostered a deep respect for the environment. As a registered and practicing primary school teacher, qualified surf lifeguard, and former commercial diver, Kieran combines experience in education, safety, and outdoor skills. His expertise and enthusiasm inspire others to develop resilience, adventure, and a love for the natural world, making him dedicated to empowering tamariki through the outdoors.

Kieran holds an Outdoor First Aid Certificate. All other casual instructors must hold a valid first aid certification and pass an internal competence check.

Jamie is an avid adventurer, she'll jump at any opportunity to go kayaking, hiking or skiing. Jamie grew up building huts in the ngahere, lighting fires by the river and foraging wild food. She has seen first hand the resilience that's built when children get to play and learn outside, and is excited to be a part of the 2026 program. Jamie holds a current comprehensive First Aid Certification.

Rupert's enthusiasm for the outdoors became obvious at an early age — he was only a young fella when he started catching eels in the creeks around Wellington. With a grandfather who was a marine biologist, a thirst for knowledge and a love of nature was practically in his DNA.

Rupert loves freshwater fishing using every method around Hawke's Bay, Rotorua and Taupo. In summer months he also heads offshore into the blue water on a jet ski on his own chasing snapper, trevally, kingfish and the odd small tuna. Born and bred in Wellington, a move to Hawke's Bay a few years back now - turbo-charged his love of the outdoors even further.

He's also into hunting — bagging a 12-point stag in the roar this year — and not to forget duck shooting. Rupert holds a First Aid Level 1 certificate and is confident guiding your child on fishing trips, having done exactly that informally for family friends' kids over several summers in Taupo.
